What’s Cooking in Gail’s Kitchen? After the Holidays: Naked Belgian Waffles! Doesn’t this sound sinfully decadent? Imagine fluffy discs of indented lattice, with slightly crisp edges, exuding a seductive vanilla essence. The deep indentations of golden batter cake are perfect vessels for whatever your heart desires. Might it be rich, creamy butter or hand-tapped pure maple syrup? What about toasted pecan halves and powdered sugar? Or perhaps even a smearing of hazelnut spread with fresh red raspberries. Whatever your craving, do yourself a favor. Make a double batch of waffles to store in the freezer. Then pop one in the toaster for a great way to start the day. Romance is in the air.
NAKED BELGIAN WAFFLES
Ingredients:
1 3/4 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon sea salt
2 eggs, room temperature
2 cups buttermilk
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions:
Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, and sea salt in a large bowl. Set aside. In another bowl, whisk eggs, buttermilk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Slowly add liquid mixture to dry ingredients. Stir just until moistened. Batter will be slightly lumpy. Do not over-mix. Spray waffle iron with nonstick oil. Pour 3/4 cup of batter into preheated waffle iron. Close lid. Do not open until golden brown. Repeat until batter is gone. Serve warm with softened butter, maple syrup, pecan halves, powdered sugar, or fruit toppings.
Simple the best🧇

Thanks for the reminder, I should dig my waffle iron out again… haha.

Isn’t it funny how we say that: “dig my waffle iron out”? 🤣 We store ours in the basement. 😜

I have mine actually in my kitchen. Just need a chair to get it down… hehe.

See? Now you understand why I make several extra waffles for popping into the freezer. It’s easier to access the toaster than the waffle iron. 😜

Naked is good! If I have waffles, I want to see their little dips and crunchy edges. I think I might have to “dig my waffle iron out” as well!

Hahaha. You’re killing me, Dorothy. 🤣 Me? I like to see a pecan, or two, nestled in one of the crunchy waffle cubes. 🧇🌿😍

I may have to stop following; too many sweet things 😘. I’ve managed to keep my own teeth so far. We’re in lockdown until mid-Feb possibly mid-Mar with only emergency dentists! Ohhh I’d love a waffle or two! 😘

Ashley….noooo. Don’t leave. Here’s a tip, if you drizzle the waffle in agave nectar, it’ll be soft enough to eat without teeth worries. Plus…it’s a natural sweetener. 😜🍃🐝

Okay, only ‘cos it’s you 😘 bring on the nectar! 🌹😍

When we stay in Hawaii, I always buy agave nectar for our French toast because syrup is insanely expensive. 🐝🍃

This sounds great and also reminds me that we need a new waffle maker. Our quarter century old one died last fall.

Ohmygosh, I hate it when that happens. You can probably get a good one right now with January clearance sales. 🧇

Strawberries and whipped cream!! Many years & miles ago I frequented a restaurant that had the best Belgian waffles I’ve ever tasted. I never thought to ask their secret.. AUGH!! I know they added a small amount of cinnamon but don’t know what else!!
The most I can manage these days is Eggo Belgian waffles.

I know what you mean. Last winter was the first time I ever had pancakes made with cottage cheese. Talk about light and fluffy! They also added blueberries and lemon curd. Here’s the link if you care to check it out.

YUM!!!
I won’t be cooking till I get a kitchen remodel but I love reading recipes and watching cooking shows! I just got “Food52” channel on my Roku and it’s great… they show recipe highlights rather than the details and whole process. I guess details are on their site (“add eggs & flour” isn’t helpful when they don’t show qtys) but I haven’t bothered to check!!

Food 52 is one of my favs. I receive their emails weekly. Great stuff. 👏

Ooohhh… that sounds fun!! But surely too much for me right now.
Roku added about 100 channels, as if it was a cable pkg, and it’s too much for me to go through. I found 3 channels that I like and stopped looking. The sole bad point is that Roku tvs don’t allow digit input, and “favorites” seems to be gone, so getting from channel 500 to 2 takes waaaay to long… just holding the up or down scroll key!!

It makes sense that I support this recipe for 100% 🙂 However,
we have Brussels waffles and Liege waffles. There is a clear distinction between these two:
– https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PSNbJDsF7jk (Brussels waffles)
– https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PLjb752ZsgI (Liege waffles)
I can highly recommend them both!

Naked like this they remind me of pizzelle. I actually prefer my waffles and pancakes without syrup; these are a no-brainer for me!

Yes, they are definitely a larger version of a pizzelle. Perhaps that’s why I like them so much. 😍🍃
