I notice they are looking for
more value for their money –
not in larger portions but
more in terms of healthier, fresh,

Dining Outside the Home: 110 Grill in Nashua, New Hampshire! Turning the corner into Summer makes a restaurant with outdoor seating that much more desirable, especially on comfy cushions around a fire pit. As the sun cools down and the taste buds heat up, gathering with that special someone for a leisurely meal, trendy conversation, and innovative cocktails suddenly becomes high on the list. After all, you deserve it. Choose something interesting as a starter appetizer, fresh from the garden salads, or a main course favorite of the chef. Then be sure to leave room for dessert. To repeat myself…you deserve it!
Dining Outside the Home: Atlantic Grill in Rye, New Hampshire! Patio dining is such a plus this time of year. The sun is warm, the coastal breeze is cool, the drinks are perfectly chilled, and the seafood is spot on. For starters, the buttermilk-fried calamari set the tone for generous portions. The rich cherry peppered marinara sauce was a condiment companion that released the flavor within. Chunky Seafood Chowder was next on deck. The first slurp from the bowl was enough to see why it was tagged “award-winning chowder”. It was thick and creamy with a blend of clams, scallops, shrimp, lobster, and haddock. Definitely five-star, in my opinion. The Sandwich Board proclaimed the Lobster Roll as Maine tail and claw lobster on a brioche bun. It was indeed. No fillers here, folks! The entire meal left us feeling overstuffed. Pamper yourself and enjoy the seafood.
Dining Outside the Home: Abby Lane in Boston, Massachusetts! Located in the heart of the Theater District of Downtown Boston, this neighborhood restaurant opens its wall of sliding windows to make the open-air dining room an inviting experience. Each unique crafted cocktail delights the palate with signature favorites like The Abby: a blend of fresh lemon, elderflower liqueur, and grey goose la poire topped with a splash of dry sparkling bubbly. Yes, please. Every seat offers a perfect vantage point of the chef’s kitchen where top-notch skills make cooking look effortless. It’s easy to turn off the cell phones and mingle with others. You never know when a celebrity may pop in. At the table next to ours Julian Edelman, of the New England Patriots, dropped by for an appetizer sampler. Memories are made of this! For an atmosphere of warmth and cheer, take a walk to Abby Lane.
Dining Outside the Home: Mesa Grill in Las Vegas, Nevada Bobby Flay, celebrity chef of the Food Network, is a pretty popular guy in Las Vegas. It might be because he takes grilled meats and fresh vegetables and then pairs them with the spicy seasonings and peppery sass of Mexican food to create his own signature dishes. If you’re looking for ordinary, pass him by. Mesa Grill electrifies the palate! The Goat Cheese “Queso Fundido” is a blistering appetizer of poblano peppers in a creamy dip for blue corn tortilla chips. Get the picture? It may take a few minutes to study the menu, but then again, from time to time everyone needs to take a break from the intoxication of Vegas!
Dining Outside the Home: El Rodeo Mexican Restaurant in Richmond, Indiana! One foot in the door and it is apparent a celebration of Mexican heritage, culture, and pride exists on Cinco de Mayo. Between the lively mariachi music and the clink of margarita glasses as big as fishbowls, the atmosphere is hypnotic. Spicy aromas envelope the crowd in south-of-the-border savory dishes. Hardworking employees pass by with sizzling hot plates carefully stacked all the way up their arms without missing a beat. Lively conversation bubbles in our midst as we make our way to a treasured vantage point of activity, celebration, feasting, and of course the classic jumbo margarita. Olé!
Dining Outside the Home: Gaylord’s at Kilohana in Lihue, Kauai. Envision a table for two at the edge of a shaded limestone patio where tropical flora bloom within sight and the fragrance of hibiscus is only inches away. Now envision being carried away to an historic plantation estate as melodic Hawaiian music fills the air while a farm-to-table brunch is offered to its guests. Seared Ahi Eggs Benedict takes center stage as a multitude of side dishes serve to compliment. Prosciutto tarts, savory meats, sweet breads, and fresh fruits are only a few of the temptations beautifully arranged on scalloped platters or kept piping hot for ultimate flavor. If you appreciate historical romance and elegant dining, step into the island’s glorious past while enjoying a culinary experience of present day.
Dining Outside the Home: Duke’s Canoe Club and Barefoot Bar in Lihue, Kauai. Remember when I said I needed to return here for dessert? Well, I did. Words of wisdom: If you stop by for a meal, save room for dessert and get an extra signature spork to share this fabulous specialty of the house. I found it served best with a generous shot of coffee-infused liqueur. Here is the best description I can give you about Duke’s infamous HULA PIE:
“Hula Pie is made with Kimo’s favorite macadamia nut ice cream piled high on a chocolate cookie crust and topped with chocolate fudge, whipped cream, and more macadamia nuts. It is sized for sharing, but rarely goes unfinished!”
Dining Outside the Home: Calico Café in Coldwater, Ohio! One of my favorite places is the Calico Café in Coldwater, Ohio. You haven’t lived until you’ve tasted the sublime burst of flavors in Mary’s golden crumble mixed berry Calamity Cobbler! Eat it warm with a generous scoop of vanilla bean ice cream or savor its natural sweetness with a steaming cup of gourmet coffee. Yes, please!
