Pic reminds me of working at a facility that was the last bldg on a road. A brushfire broke out on the nearby hill. Scary to watch how insanely fast it expanded. Fortunately, the fire dropoing helicopters refilled just beyond our parking lot. It was great entertainment, watching about 5 copters queuing in air to get more water. On par with the time a tons of sheriffs with military rifles used our parking lot to remove/pack a big illegal marijuana operation in the valley below us.
We’ve had two wildfires get “too close for comfort” in Florida the past 40 days. Last night I met a firefighter who was involved in the containment lines. He returns to California today to battle this year’s blazes. I got to thank him for his service. 👍🇺🇸
That’s awesome .. but sorry to learn you had flames so close!
One year, there was a,huge fire on Catalina Island so Camp Pendleton sent hovercraft to Long Beach to transport fire enginesxto the island. Word of the plan spread FAST. I lived just 3 blocks away and headed over to watch (with several hundred others). The hovercraft arrived many hours later than planned, but I was there for it. Each hovercraft could hold 4 full fire engines! One of the groups waiting to be transported was a bus full of fire fighting prisoners. I admired the prisoners courage (and kinda disturbing quiet & stillness while waiting on the bus – surely a safety,/discipline thing, but still oddly disturbing). I hope all of the prisoners ended up with great careets when released.
There are heroes all around us. I’m grateful for the human saviors who choose to devote themselves in service to others. The Lord bless us and keep us all.
